Experience: From 2009-2013, I completed my work as an articled clerk for the Financial Institution Services Team division whilst having the opportunity to lead engagements on smaller non-financial audits of Deloitte in Durban and Denver, Colorado (US). During this time, I built up a number of competences in Audit and have planned, managed and conducted a number of Audits. I obtained my CA(SA) title in early 2013.
In May 2013 I obtained a job as a Commercial Financial Accountant in the Commercial Finance Department at Aspen Pharmacare Ltd in the Woodmead Office in JHB, South Africa. I offered financial reporting / analyst support to both the Consumer Health (FMCG) and Nutritionals divisions. In this role I developed my reporting, analytic and review skills as well as developing budget and forecast models for these divisions.
In September 2014 I was offered the head of finance position at a strategic marketing consultancy agency, Added-Value Group SA which is a division of Kantar, WPP. My role here was both in a commercial accounting role (i.e. financial analyser, financial reporting, group reporting, budget processes and budget management) as well as in the day to day management of financial transactions where I oversaw a finance team. At Added-Value I sat on the leadership team and was involved in all strategic / month to month business decisions.
In early 2016, Kantar, globally underwent a massive restructure and back office consolidation. During this restructure, I was offered the position as one of two finance business partners within Kantar SA and one of six within the AME region. The role offers me the opportunity to enhance my commercial skills whilst ensuring I maintain full PL responsibility with more focus on strategic investment opportunities for the various entities I oversee. I have developed key skills in excel usage as well as creating, manging and presenting budget and forecast models for 4 of Kantarâs SA entities.
By the end of 2017, I made a personal decision to move my career towards a consulting role to allow for more flexibility and exposure within the commercial finance space. My first consulting role was with the Connected Video, Multichoice division based in Cresta. Here I have been exposed to group reporting, heading up a finance team of 11 people +, managing and creating operating models as well as consolidation / merger of operating legal entities within and outside of the systems under the Connected Video operation. I have been involved in the content management as well as further developing my commercial finance business partnering skills by upskilling both the operations teams and the finance teams within the new structure.
